About the artist
How did lonniedraws come about?
-
My art is inspired by people in my LGBTQ+ community: dancers, drag queens, leather men, pups, gogo boys, couples, and polycules.
The art here is a catalog of people and experiences that otherwise might not be elevated, shared, and celebrated, so I’m doing it.
I’m Lonnie, an artist and designer living in San Francisco. I make portraits and illustrations, and I share my work as the owner of a creative practice.
-
I’m an Indigenous and Latinx designer and artist with 20 years of experience in design, art, branding, and community building. In the past I’ve worked with some of the world’s most iconic brands, including Sony, Disney, Whole Foods, Snopes.com, Panera, Steppenwolf Theatre, TechCrunch, AOL, Planned Parenthood, Moxy Hotels, GLAAD, and Folsom Street Fair.
But this art is just for you.
-
I wanted to make artwork of my friends for my friends. When I visited the homes of friends, new and old, I saw the same store-bought art prints.
I started drawing to capture the beauty and diversity of our community. I didn’t see it anywhere else at the time.
I’m a full-time creative, managing design and art projects.

For queer folx
I’m a painter and illustrator specializing in portraits of gay, queer, and trans people from around the world. Each beautiful character seems to glow with fluorescent neon and bioluminescent-like colors.
My art is meant to depict our community 🏳️🌈 in a beautiful pantheon of deities.
My work has been commissioned by and sold to private collections and LGBTQ+ brands around the world. My clients and collaborators include Folsom Street Events, Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst, entertainers, drag queens, and politicians.
